50 years ago I was in Mrs. McConnell's English class at Pulaski High School in New Britain, Connecticut when I learned of President Kennedy being shot.
I recall being glued to the television set that afternoon, evening, and the next few days, watching in horror and anguish the sequence of events: the announcement of President Kennedy's death; the killing of Lee Harvey Oswald; the arrest of Jack Ruby; the funeral of President Kennedy.
I sometimes wonder how different our country might have been if President Kennedy had not been assassinated. Would there have been a Vietnam War? A Watergate scandal? The decline of the middle class?
Kennedy's death marked the death of an era for me: the end of Camelot.
How tragic for the Kennedy family, my generation, and our country.
