For those of you who are unaware of the referendum on the Town of Berlin's budget and your property tax bill, it is scheduled for Tuesday, April 24, 2012.
The Town of Berlin's mill rate will be going up again. If you own a home valued at $250,000, you can expect a tax increase of about $125 on your home. Of course, any increase in the mill rate affects the property taxes you pay on your vehicles, too, as well as on any business property that you may own.
Here is your opportunity to voice your opinion on the stewardship of your town's officials.
Of the Town of Berlin's total budget of $73.5 million, the portion represented by the Board of Education is $39.1 million.
It is your responsibility as a citizen of Berlin to voice your opinion on whether you agree with this budget or whether you feel that it should be amended. Unless you vote, and once it is approved, there is no recourse later.
See you at the polls!
