Call Berlin Officials to Stop Speeding in Our Neighborhoods

Isn't it time something is done about speeding in residential neighborhoods?

Twice the number of children in Connecticut die from motor vehicles than from guns. Speeders are criminals and should lose their license and be prosecuted accordingly.

We have witnessed vehicles traveling as fast as 60 miles per hour in our residential neighborhood here in Berlin, where many small children and pets live and play, even though the posted speed limit is 25 miles per hour.  The majority of the vehicles travel at least 40 miles per hour.  What chance does a child or pet have at those speeds?

At 25 miles per hour, a car would have traveled 86 feet before it comes to a stop.  At 45 miles per hour--a not uncommon speed in many residential neighborhoods--a car would have traveled 200 feet or more.  If a child were to dart out onto the road chasing a ball or on a bicycle, what chance would that child have if you were driving 45 miles per hour?  Are you so certain that a child would never run out onto the road within 200 feet of your vehicle?  If you were to hit and kill that child traveling at a speed in excess of the posted speed limit, would you not be guilty of manslaughter?

If you are concerned about speeding in your neighborhood, then do something about it!  Please contact the Berlin police, the Berlin Town Council members, Adam Salina, Denise McNair, and Berlin's state legislators--Joe Aresimowicz, Terry Gerratana, Catherine Abercrombie--and let them know that you want them all to take action now before a child is murdered.  The child or pet you save may be your own.

Please sign the petition to be sent to our Mayor and Chairman of the Police Commissioners for enforcement of our residential speed limits:
