This Dog Has A Reason To Relay

'Wish upon a Cure' the theme of Berlin Relay For Life on May 19.

The reasons to participate in Relay for Life are many.  The ones touted by the American Cancer Society are to: Celebrate, Remember, and Fight Back.

A committee member’s pet dog, Lucky, being man’s best friend after all, decided it was time for him to contribute to the cause. Lacking a job and without financial resources, Lucky did the next best thing. He entered FoxCT's St. Patrick’s Day "Show Us Your Irish Pride" contest pledging to contribute the winning prize, a laptop, to the “Best of Berlin & Beyond” Relay drawing if he won. Lucky’s owners entered his favorite Irish Pride photo into the contest with FoxCT. After being chosen as one of the 10 finalists, Lucky’s family rallied the troops - friends, family and of course the Berlin Relay Community to go online and vote for him (American Idol style). The power of Relay came through and Lucky won the contest. Staying true to his promise he donated the prize to the Relay.

The war against cancer goes on because of the thousands and thousands of commitments similar to Lucky’s that people make. The Berlin Relay for Life is a great opportunity to join those in your community in this fight against cancer.  It’s not too late; our Relay is scheduled for May 19 and 20 at the Berlin Fair Grounds. There are 17 days left to contribute, plenty of time to join a team or minimally make a donation to the cause. Every little bit helps in bringing us a step closer to eliminating this disease. For more about Relay for Life of Berlin or to make a donation go to http://www.relayforlife.org/berlinct .

If you’d like an opportunity to win the laptop that Lucky donated as well as number of other Drawing prizes such as rounds of golf at Timberlin & Stanley Golf Course, Red Sox & Rock Cats Tickets, a flatscreen TV and DVD Players and so much more, but you can’t make it to Relay, you can purchase tickets at $10 each or 3/$20 by contacting Anne Carubba (arcarub@comcast.net)  or Nancy Lewandowski (teetee21561@yahoo.com).
