Survivors and Caregivers Enjoy Second Day Of Relay For Life - Photo Gallery

Several survivors have had and beaten cancer for more than 20 years.

The survivor ceremonies were the highlight of the second day of the Berlin Relay for Life Saturday.

The Berlin Relay welcomes dozens of survivors, some who have had the disease for less than or around a year to several who have been diagnosed and have been living and beating the disease for more than 20 years.

During the survivor lap, the survivors met their caretakers halfway around the track and presented them with a pin to signify their sacrifice. A survivor luncheon followed.

All of the musicians who performed Sunday made some new fans. Faith Ziegler, Animals Talking and The Salt were very popular.

While it will not be known for a few weeks if the Relay, in only its sixth year, met its incredibly aggressive goal of raising $92,500 over the 24 hours of the event, American Cancer Society partner Lynn Kipphut was happy with how things went.

"I'm hoping we will be close to our goal and people can still donate over the next few weeks," Kipphut said. "The main goal for this Relay was to get people who hadn't come in a while to attend and enjoy the event. I think anyone who was here Friday had an incredible time. We had great entertainment and the Luminaria ceremony with photos on the big screen, was really well-received."

Mayor Adam Salina said he was moved by the entire event.

"From the time I spoke at opening ceremonies to the luminaria it was incredibly inspirational," said Salina, who lost his father in law to pancreatic cancer. "The music from the McGee chorus and the Songbirds was amazing and there were not too many dry eyes during the luminaria.

"This town tends to come together when there is a worthy cause and this certainly is one. I congratulate the committee and volunteers who put in so much work to make this a great event."
