Minutemen Have To Leave Town To Find A Home

Wrestling program will run out of Middletown facility.

The Berlin Youth Wrestling program has been searching for a new home since the closure of the old Knights of Columbus Hall by the Town of Berlin. They have been trying to find something that would hold wrestling mats and parents but no space has presented itself within Berlin. So the Berlin Wrestling Club Board started looking outside the boundaries of Berlin and has found a home in Middletown for the 2011-12 season.

The program will be held at 20 Tuttle Place right off of Route 3 beginning Monday, November 28 at 5:45 p.m.  Coach Roger Moss said, “We really wanted to keep things in Berlin but the schools don’t work for our program due to the space our mats take up and the gymnasiums are being used for basketball. We also lost two weeks of practice last year due to school closures when it was clear at 5:30 p.m. when we would have started.”

Registration may be done online at www.berlinyouthwrestling.com or by printing off a registration form from the website and mailing it in. Registrations will also be accepted the first week of practice at the new location.

Moss added, “We will be spending the weekend after Thanksgiving moving equipment and cleaning up the site so we are ready to go on Monday. Anyone willing to help that has a truck or van is greatly appreciated.” Call Coach Moss at (860) 828-9818 for details on set-up or questions about the program.

The new location is approximately 12 minutes from Berlin High via Route 372 or easily access by traveling down Route 9 to the Cromwell exit. It is the first right off Newfield Street.
