Berlin Relay For Life Off To Spectacular Start - Photo Gallery

The Berlin Relay for Life opened under sunny skies and high hopes to reach its goal of raising more than $90,000 in 24 hours Friday at the Berlin Fairgrounds.

Mayor Adam Salina addressed the crowd at opening ceremonies and the McGee Chorus wowed the crowd with two stars.

There was outstanding entertainment from Todd Malinowsky's Elvis Experience and Avenue Groove.

The luminaria ceremony was especially emotional as guest speaker Tony Terzi of Fox 61 spoke about his cousin who passed away from cancer at the age of 36. He was first diagnosed at 3.

The Songbirds, led by Terlecky, again sand several poignant songs. The crowd of walkers remained silent walking the luminaria lap, looking at luminaria bags with friends and relatives names written on them.

The Relay continues through 3 p.m. Saturday with survivor festivities starting at around 11 a.m. and the lunch will be between noon and 12:30 p.m. There is still time to join in the event and donate. Walk-ups re encouraged.
