The girls improved to 5-1 on the season with a victory over Bristol Eastern 91-55.

"The distance team had a great day," Berlin coach Steve Soucy said. "We knew that the distance events were Eastern's strong area and if we didn't run well it would be tough for us to win. Freshman Kristen Madeia ran a flawless 1,600m race winning in 5:30. Mariah McPhee from Eastern had beaten Kristen on Saturday at the Middletown Invitational. I knew that if Kristen could shorten the race and not push the pace she would have a good chance. If the winning race time went into the 5:20's McPhee would be tough to beat. We had Kristen sit behind her not pushing the pace so that hopefully the winner would be closer to 5:30. Kristen has great sprinting ability and in the final 200m out sprinted the field to the finish line. Kristen's time of 5:30 is a school record for freshman girls. Hopefully in a few years she will be aiming at the overall school record of 5:16."

In the 3,200m Nicki Sylvain ran a career best time of 12:40 winning by over 10 seconds. "One of Nicki's goals for the season was to qualify for the Class MM meet and her time today got her in," Soucy said.

Nicole Grieco also ran a personal best in the 3,200 taking 3rd in 12:53.

Shannon Mahoney took both the long jump and triple jump. She put in a season best jump of 15' qualifying her for the MM meet in long jump.

"This is the best time of the year as a coach, when all the kids that have been coming close to qualifying start seeing the improvement and getting the marks they need," Soucy added.

Other event winners: 4x800m relay (Carbonell, Sylvain K, Sylvain N, Parillo), 4x400m relay (Carbonell, Sylvain K, Voelpel, Madeia), Catherine Voelpel 400m, Alex Carbonell 800m, Taylor Lupini and Briana Cass tie in high jump, Kate Piotrowicz discus and Liz Orsini pole vault.
