Girl's tennis loses tough one; Baseball wins first.

 

The Berlin Redcoats girl's tennis team lost a close match to the Hall Warriors, 4-3.

It was a tale of two cities, as Berlin won all three doubles matches, but lost all four singles matches.

In doubles, Meg Pitkin and Kelly Josephson won in straight sets over Sacha Moor and Rebecca Zeuschner, 6-4, 6-3. Caroline and Stephanie Zembko then won an impressive comeback match in a third set tiebreaker over Morgan Delgata and Alyssa Freiman, 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6). Emma Johnson and Autmn Edelson completed the doubles sweep by defeating Rebecca Stambler and Ashmini Joshi, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.

Hall dominated the singles matches, beginning with Rachel Brody's 7-5, 6-3 win over Eva Rybka. Hayley Blair defeated Shawna Rosol 7-6, 6-3; Erin Smyth won a tough three set match over Kelly Byrnes 5-7, 6-3, 6-2; and Julila Hurley defeated Charlotte Cichowski 6-1, 6-2.

The Redcoats are right back in action Thursday, April 12 against Northwest Catholic at St. Joseph's College.

Berlin 9, Middletown 3

Tim Norton took things into his own hands to give Berlin its first win after three straight losses to start the season.

Norton, a senior righthander, struck out 14 to lead the Redcoats past Middletown.

Colin King and Bobby Mozzicato each had two hits for the winners, 1-3.
