GIRL'S TENNIS

Berlin 5, Bristol Eastern 2

The Berlin Redcoats girl's tennis team defeated Bristol Eastern 5-2 in a CCC South matchup Monday.

The teams split the singles matches with Berlin's Eva Rybka defeating Kaylee Cifone 6-0, 6-0 and Kelly Byrnes defeating Alandra Mordo 6-4, 6-3. The Lancers then won the other two singles matches in three-set thrillers. Sydney Randles defeated Shawna Rosol 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-3, while Sakkinah Nadusalm defeated Charlotte Cichowski in a match that lasted 2 1/2 hours, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5.

The Redcoats then swept all three doubles matches led by Meg Pitkin and Kelly Josephson over Kate Gladis and Sam Wosnicki 6-1, 6-0. Stephanie and Caroline Zembko then beat Steph D'Angelo and Brooke Johnson 6-3, 6-2, and Emma Johnson and Autumn Edelson triumphed over Abby Guda and Sam Benirino 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

BOY'S TENNIS

Bristol Eastern 6, Berlin 1

Sophomore Dan Rombola ran his season record to 7-3 with his fourth straight victory over a senior. Despite Dan’s excellent play the Redcoats had yet another loss, this time to perennial CCC South Champion, Bristol Eastern, falling to 0-12. The team continues to improve and looks for their first wins in their next three matches against Platt, Bulkeley and Maloney. 

MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS

McGee 13, Durham 11

The McGee Baseball team continued its winning ways by holding on to defeat Durham by a score of 13-11. 

Jake McCarthy was terrific in relief pitching four solid innings. Andrew Charbonneau, Cote Libby, Jack Kane, and Jake Loiselle provided important hits to spark the offensive explosion. Jared Zima was once again outstanding behind the plate. 

The Spartans play home Tuesday against Portland.
