The team recorded a “W” today but it is not a win. Bulkeley’s roster only had two doubles pairs, so the team is working hard to achieve a win.

Sophomore Karol Zawadski and freshman Jack Strafstrom won in one doubles match while the team of sophomores Kris Langevin and Brian Kennure also won their match.

The Redcoats swept all three doubles matches in impressive fashion. Meg Pitkin and Kelly Josephson defeated Ariana D'Avanzo and Louise Carrozza 6-0, 6-2; Stephanie and Caroline Zembko shut out Amy Brazavski and Christine Pandiani 6-0, 6-0; and Emma Johnson and Autumn Edelson triumphed over Melanie Morenz and Kalayla Davis 6-4, 6-1.

Berlin 6, Bulkeley 1

The Redcoats won again on Friday, dominting Bulkeley to improve to 7-5 overall.

GIRL'S GOLF

Berlin 183,Wethersfield 266

The Berlin girl's golf team defeated Wethersfield 181 to 266 Wednesday at Timberlin Golf Course to extend their season record to 9-0.

Emily-Anne Deutsch earned Medalist honors with a well played 44. Other Berlin scores included Victoria Fagan, 45, Emily Stickel, 45, Julia Kemmling, 47, and Ashley D'Attilio with 47.

"A win is a win is about all you can say about this one," Berlin coach Jim Barnes said. "It was good to see Emily-Anne post a solid score. She has all the shots to consistently be in the low 40's so I'm hoping this is a sign of things to come.  The team is hitting the ball well but recently we just can't seem to get through 9 holes without everyone having one or two bad holes.

"For some reason we're losing focus out there. We need to figure this out quickly. We have some very tough matches ahead and conference and states are both less than a month away. Next week will be a real test for us. Three away matches against Hall, Northwest Catholic and Farmington."

SOFTBALL

Bristol Eastern 13, Berlin 5

The Redcoats fell to 9-3 on the season with a loss in Bristol.

Catherine Burek had a home run to lead Berlin's offense.

BASEBALL

Berlin 7, Bristol Eastern 0

Senior pitcher Tim Norton threw a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts to lead Berlin past Bristol Eastern

Berlin managed just six hits but Kyle Naples and Greg Knowski led the way.

BOY'S TRACK

Boys win two meets

The Berlin boy's track team won two meets this week beating Bristol Eastern on Tuesday and Newington on Thursday. That pushed Berlin to 5-2 on the season with only "Senior Night" on Monday at 6 p.m. at Willow Brook vs. Plainville and an away meet at Morgan on Thursday. The CCC South Championship meet is in Berlin on Tuesday, May 22 at 2 p.m.

"We are very excited to have our first ever Senior Night on Monday," Berlin coach Rich Hanbury said. "The kids are looking forward to the experience of a night meet and also to thank the seniors for their service.

"We had two close meets this week. Both could have gone either way. Our relay teams really have been the difference for us this season, as the last two victories were sealed by winning the 4x400m relay. Both races were real nailbiters. Each came down to less than one meter difference at the end of one mile of racing.

"The kids really got into the event and cheered on the racers.  It's a lot of fun when the meet comes down to that event, since it is a 'team' event.

Final Score: Berlin 82 – Newington 68
