High School Roundup: Berlin Softball Rolls, Girl's Golf Wins Pisk Tourney

Both teams are back in action today. Softball home in second round at 4 p.m. while girl's golf travels to Tunxis for CCC Tournament.

Berlin 12, Branford 2

The sixth-seeded Redcoats took care of business in their home opener, beating 27th seed Branford, 12-2 at Sage Park Tuesday.

With the win, Berlin will play host to 11th seeded Windsor on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Sage Park. Windsor beat Joel Barlow, 5-1 in it first round game and comes into the game 14-6.

Berlin improved to 18-3 with the win. A win Wednesday would earn Berlin a spot in the quarterfinals Friday against the winner of once-beaten and third see Rockville and 14 seed Ledyard.  

Girl's Golf

Berlin Wins Pisk Tournament

The Berlin Lady Redcoats golf team captured the Stan Pisk Memorial Golf Tournamnet title Tuesday at Stanley Golf Course by defeating New Britain 175 to 249.  The victory also concludes Berlin's regular season with a record of 19 wins against only 1 defeat.  

Three sophomores propelled Berlin to victory. Julia Kemmling led the Redcoats and was tournament  medalist with a very well played score of 41 on the par 37 white nine. It marked the 11th time this season that Kemmling earned low score honors. Ashley D'Attilio was only one stroke behind Kemmling with a fine round of 42. And sophomore number three, Emma Atkinson, turned in the third lowest score of the tournament with a solid round of 45. 

Senior Co-Captain Emily Deutsch, who won both the nearest to the pin and long drive competition, rounded out Berlin's scoring with a 47.  

Berlin is in action next, on Wednesday, at Tunxis Plantation where it will compete in the CCC Conference Tournament.
