Gozzo Gets To Hang With His Former Pupils

Former Major Leaguer part of Matt Cain perfect game celebration.

Former Berlin baseball star Mauro "Goose" Gozzo got a surprise phone call from the Giants last week. Because he was so instrumental in San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain’s development and success, the Giants invited Gozzo to a “Celebration of Matt Cain’s Perfect Game” at AT&T Park in San Francisco on August 10. Cain is scheduled to pitch today, August 11 and his opposite number on the mound for the Colorado Rockies will be Drew Pomerantz, another Gozzo pupil.

The trip is very special for Gozzo and will provide him with another highlight. Gozzo has mentored two players who are in the major leagues right now, Cain and Pomerantz, a pitcher for the Colorado Rockies.

The Giants are playing the Rockies during the series when Gozzo will be there.

Gozzo said on Thursday, “It would be a dream come true to see Matt pitch against Drew, who I worked with from the time he was 12-years old.”
