Delorenzo Scores In UConn Debut

Berlin's all-time leading rusher recovers a blocked punt and then impresses in fourth quarter.

 

One thing Berlin High School football coach John Capodice also said about star Max Delorenzo was that he had a knack for scoring and had a nose for the football.

Delorenzo proved that again in his debut as a redshirt freshman for the UConn Huskies.

UConn played UMass at Rentschler Field Thursday night and while Delorenzo played on special teams and two offensive plays in the first half, it was in the second half of the Huskies' 37-0 victory where he began to impress.

With 4:12 left in the third quarter Delorenzo recovered a blocked punt in the end zone to score his first collegiate touchdown. The score gave UConn a 27-0 lead.

In the fourth quarter with the game well in hand, Delorenzo got a chance to carry the ball on offense. He carried four times for 22 yards including one rush for 18 yards.He was knocked out of bounds on the one-yard line on one carry and the Huskies were forced to settle for a field goal.

UConn is in action next on Saturday Sept. 8 at noon, hosting North Carolina State.
