Former Berlin High star pitcher Matt Carasiti, now playing for St. John's University, was selected in the sixth round of the Major League Baseball first year player draft Tuesday.

Thought to be a top-10 round pick, Carasiti is in Tuscon Arizona where he and his Red Storm teammates are preparing for an NCAA Tournament Super Regional Best of Three playoff with the University of Arizona.

Carasiti won two games to help St. John's win the Big East Tournament and was named Most Outstanding Player. He also pitched and was the winning pitcher in the team's clinching victory over North Carolina in the Regionals on Sunday.

According to mlb.com "Carasiti has started for St. John's but has had more success as a closer. He has good command and won't walk many batters but will mostly pitch to contact and won't get many strikeouts. His fastball sits in the low 90s and won't blow anyone away but plays up because of good command."
