Berlin's Dan Rombola Will Play For Class M Tennis Title Saturday

He could become the first individual state champion in the history of the school.

Dan Rombola, a junior at Berlin High School is one win away from claiming the Class M state championship.

He continued his excellence with a dominating win, 6-1, 6-1 in the Class "M" boys' tennis semifinals over #7 seed Evan Powell of Guilford. The match was played at Conard H.S.

Dan will now play in the Finals, Saturday, June 1, at 2 p.m. at Conard H.S.

His opponent will be Bradley Orban of Foran H.S. Orban, also a junior is the two-time defending Class M Champion, and the defending State Open Champion, having been the finalist as a freshman.

If he wins, he will be the first men's tennis player to win an individual state championship. 

Thursday the junior at earned All-State honors  in boys' tennis for the second time. According to head coach Rex Smith, when he won last year as a sophomore he was not expected to achieve that level. This year all of his hard work in the game earned him the #3 seed in the 2013 Class M tournament and allowed him to dominate his first four matches, losing just 8 games.

Smith said Rombola is a superb student-athlete who has earned the respect of faculty at BHS as well as tennis players and coaches around the state...--
