Berlin's Anthony Marzi Pitches UConn Baseball To Big East Title

Lefthander comes back on two days rest to beat Notre Dame in title game.

The Big East Tournament did not start off the way Berlin's Anthony Marzi had hoped. After his Huskies, the eighth seed in the eight-team tournament, upset top seed Louisville in the tournament opener, Marzi lasted just three and two third innings in a game against South Florida. But the Huskies came back to beat South Florida to take Marzi off the hook.

The lefthander got the call on just two days rest for the championship game against Notre Dame.

He came up with the game of a lifetime.

Before the ninth inning of the game, the ESPN analyst said, "This is potentially one of the most legendary pitching performances in UConn baseball history for lefthander Anthony Marzi."

Marzi threw 116 pitches in going the distance, striking out six and walking two allowing just four hits in a convincing 8-1 win for the Huskies. UConn will now await the NCAA pairings but will be in the field for the third time in four years. This is UConn's third Big East Championship but first since 1994.

Marzi was named to the All Tournament team along with teammates David Mahoney, Tom Verdi and Billy Ferriter.

The Berlin Patch will have more on Marzi in the next few days.
