Berlin Swimming Wrap-Up

Solid season during rebuilding year.

Class M results

State Diving:  Wednesday, March 9 was held at East Lyme High School. Josh Paradis finished 10th with a score of 267.15.

Saturday, March 11 state trials were held at Masuk High School.

200 Medley Relay:  Vinny Fischer, Taylor Bosse, Kevin Kozikowski, Dan Klotz bettered our seed time by two seconds and placed 10th.

200 Freestyle: Kevin Kozikowski slipped at the start on a very slippery metal block and yet still managed to claim a spot at finals in 23rd with a time of 1:52.77. He did amazing coming from a dead stop at the start as he fell in and hit his foot. however this injury would later be diagnosed as a bad bruise and the athletic trainer deemed him unable to finish his other events in the meet due to de-hydration, a call we all tried to get overturned.

200 IM: Vinny Fischer posted his best time by three seconds to a 2:09.97 and became the second alternate for finals.  This qualifying time would have earned him a spot in finals in any other of the three divisions.

50 freestyle: Chris Cefaratti posted his best time of 24.19 and Dan Klotz swam hard to a personal best and tied his school record of 22.3 and a fifth place spot at finals.

100 fly: Kevin Kozikowski was not allowed to swim due to the trainers diagnosis, he should have made the top heat for finals.

100 Free: Dan Klotz set a new school record of 48.56 and finished fourth for the day.

200 Freestyle relay:  Chris Cefaratti, Chris Domurat, Igor Turetskyy, and Ryan Newport finished with a time of 1:38.93 to secure a spot in finals.

100 Backstroke:  Vinny Fischer set a new school record with a time of 57.19 and secured a 13th place spot in finals.

400 Free Relay: With Kevin Kozokowski unable to swim Ryan Newport stepped in to earn the relay the right to compete at finals and posted a best time of 55.89.  His teammates were Chris Cefaratti, Vinny Fischer and Dan Klotz.

Wednesday, March 16th: State finals were held at Weselyan University.

Berlin finished 14th in Class M with 167.5 points.

Berlin  Medley Relay team of Vinny Fischer, Taylor Bosse, Kevin Kozikowski and Dan Klotz set a new school reord by over one full second, with a time of 1:42.74 and earned a spot at the State Open. They finished 8th in Class M.

Kevin Kozikowski finished 17th in the 200 Freestyle with a season best of 1:48.76.

Dan Klotz earned All-State honors in both the 50 and 100 free by taking third place in each, breaking two school records and posting a 21.94 in the 50 and a 48.11 in the 100 free. He also earned the chance to swim both events in the State Open.

The 200 free relay team of Chris Cefaratti, Chris Domurat, Igor Turetskyy and Ryan newport bettered their time to a 1:37.68 and finished 16th.

Vinny Fischer finished 12th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.31.

The 400 Free relay team of Kevin Kozikowski, Vinny  Fischer, and Ryan Newport and Dan Klotz finished 10th with a time of 3:29.18.

Saturday, March 19th:  State Open was held at Yale University. 

The 200 Medley Relay finished 18th in the open with a time of 1:43.21
and Dan Klotz finished 11th in the 50 free with a time of 22.02 and 20th in the 100 free with a time of 49.18.

"It was a tremendous finish to a year of rebuilding," Berlin coach Eileen Thurston said. "We say farewell to 17 seniors and wish them well in their future endeavors. We challenge our returning members to work hard in the off season as we will have many key spots to fill next season."
