Berlin Swimmers Seventh In Class M

A great effort by the Redcoats.

 

The Berlin girl's swimming and diving team finished a strong seventh place at the Class M state meet at Wesleyan in Middletown.

Branford won the championship with an incredible 694 points. Brookfield, Wethersfield, Sacred Heart Academy, East Lyme and Watertown finished in second through sixth places in front of the Redcoats.

Freshman Olivia DeGroff came in second in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:17.85 and second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.49.

The 200 medley relay team finished third with a time of 1:55.15. The team is made up of freshmen Emily DeVivo and Olivia DeGroff, sophomore Kelsey Kozikowski and senior Amanda Martino.

Sophomore Kozikowski was fifth in the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.40 and ninth in the 50 free. Senior Leah Pawelczyk was fifth in the one-meter diving with 294.60 points.

Freshman DeVivo was 10th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.54. Martino was close behind in the same event in 12th place. Seniors Joanna Wajton and Katherine Burek were 12th and 15th in the 100 breaststroke. Sophomore Kayla Cervoni also had a career best time and finished 19th in the 100 backstroke.

The team of sophomores Holly Chirico and Arian Silas, senior Joanna Wajton and freshman Emily DeVivo came in 15th in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.
