Berlin Sports Teams Prep For State Tournament

Schedule may be impacted by snow.

Three Berlin High School athletic teams qualified for the state tournament when the pairings were released Wednesday.

The boys soccer team finished 9-4-3 and earned the 14th seed in the Class L state tournament. The Redcots are scheduled to play host to Bunnell, the 19th seed and 5-5-6, Thursday night at 6 p.m. at Scalise Field at Sage Park.

Berlin looks to have a favorable draw to make another deep run in the state tournament. A win would put Berlin in the second round against Platt Tech, 13-2-1 on the season but playing in a technical school league. Should the Redcoats make it to the quarters, they would likely meet sixth-seeded Avon.

The Berlin girls are the sixth seed in Class M and are scheduled to play Friday night at Scalise Field at 5 p.m. The Redcoats, 10-3-3, host Platt, who they beat twice during the regular season.

A win would put Berlin in the second round against the winner of Pomperaug-Bristol Eastern. Should the Redcoats get to the quarters third-seeded RHAM may be waiting.

The volleyball team is seeded 11th in the Class M state tournament and plays host to Lauralton Hall Thursday. A win would put the Redcoats in the second round against Foran.

Obviously the first snow of the season may make the games unplayable. Stay tuned to Berlin Patch for updates and game stories.
