Berlin Girl's Golf Continues To Lower Scores

Ashley D'Attilio tops the scoring for Redcoats for second match in a row.

The week just got better and better for the Berlin Lady Redcoats Golf Team.

Thursday they closed out a perfect week by defeating Avon and Masuk at The Country Club of Avon. Final scores, Berlin 166, Avon 188 and Masuk 209.  Berlin's team score of 166 on the par 36 Avon blue nine was its lowest score against par for the year.

The Lady Redcoats season record moved to 9-0. Avon is now 11-2 with Masuk at 6-4.

Berlin was led for the second straight match by Ashley D'Attilio with a great round of 40 followed closely by Julia Kemmling, Emily Deutsch and Abbie Underwood all with 42's.

Berlin's balanced team scoring overcame an incredible individual effort by Avon's Marissa Grillo who carded an outstanding, one under par 35.

"This was our first trip into the 160's," said Berlin coach Jim Barnes. "I'm not aware of any other team in the state that has broken 170 this year on a par 36 track, or any other track for that matter. Last year's team, which I really believe proved to be the best Connecticut girls golf team ever, broke 170 an incredible seven times. I didn't think this year's team would be quite as good but now I'm not so sure. The girls are really coming together.

"Julia and Ashley are the best one-two punch in the state. Emily Deutsch is right on their heals and getting better. Caroline is posting some very good scores. And now, Abbie Underwood shoots 42 on a very tough course. Abbie has just come out of nowhere and is proving to be the real deal. I think I have the best coaching job in the state."

Berlin is in action next against Farmington at Tunxis Plantation on Monday.
