"There was some very good competition at the races and the girls ran very well." Berlin coach Steve Soucy said.

Sophomore Kristen Madeia led the team with a 12th place finish overall in 20:36. She was followed by Brittany Sullivan and Nicole Grieco.

"The girls kept their pack together and finished strong," Soucy said. "Kristen and Brittany were each in the top 20 and finished as medalists in the the race. The rest of our scoring team was between 20 and 25, just out of medal contention.

"Their team time is consistently moving lower and lower each week. We now are heading to Wickham Park for the majority of our remaining races. We have a few dual meets left on the schedule but all the big meets will be there. The girls are staying focused on their goals for the year of setting a new school record for team time and finishing in the top five of the State in Class MM. If their training goes as planned and we are able to lower our times a little bit more, both are well within their reach."

The boy's team had a tougher day Saturday. The boys finished ninth out of 10 teams competing in the Large School Division.

"There was good competition in their race, but they just didn't come out strong enough at the start and got stuck behind a huge pack." Soucy said. "They spent a lot of energy in the first mile or so just trying to move up through that pack to where they should have been right from the start."

The team was led again by James Dwyer and Brendan McLarty.

In the Boy's JV race Sam Papacoda took home a top 20 finish and was Berlin's top Medalist on the boy's side.
