Youth Sports: Berlin Bears B, C Teams Win

Both teams beat Glastonbury.

Berlin Bears C Team 13, Glastonbury 6

Berlin opened up the scoring with a 55-yard run by Raylend Wilson. The conversion failed. Glastonbury answered before the half with an 10-yard TD run.  The conversion failed.The halftime score was 6 -6.

In the 4th quarter, Berlin Defense stopped Glastonbury on 4th and 5 at their own 45-yard line.  Berlin received the ball on turnover on downs and scored on the first play a 45 yard run by Wilson, with outstanding blocking by fullback Zach Hrubiec, receiver Giancarlo Tufano and running back Tyler Cop.  The score put Berlin ahead 12-6. The conversion play was a Pass from quarterback Sam Capodice to RB Cop to put Berlin ahead 13-6. 

The defense once again stopped Glastonbury twice on 4th down (due to penalty) on Berlin's 30-yard line to end the game.

The defense was anchored by Tyler Tralli, Ryan Terlecky, Nick Paszczuk, Hrubiec, Matt Wojciechowski, Kevin Dunn, Tyler Cop, Alex Halkias, Tufano, Tyler Dinkins and Wilson.

With the win, Berlin goes to 5-0 and first place in the conference.

Berlin Bears B1 12, Glastonbury 6

Nick Perrone had 15 tackles to lead the Berlin Bear B1 team to victory over three-time defending  state champ powerhouse Glastonbury.

Coach Pete Ladas said, “Nick has the heart of an elephant, all he wants to do is win, he’s a special kid”.

Jack Hamel came to play as he chipped in with eight tackles of his own.

"If Nick isn’t making the tackle, Jack is there to clean house, it’s a beautiful thing to watch,” Ladas said.

Others turning in a big day on defense were: Dan Labbadia, Ricky Nappi, Patrick Ladas, Alec Berger and Ryan Steck.

Alex Ladas and Mitchel Maslowski led the team offensively in the air and on the ground. They combined for 11 carries and just under 100 yards rushing. In the air QB Jack Lynch was 6-for-11 with two touchdowns. Lynch hit Maslowski for a 40-yard TD, and then hit Alex Ladas, who ran a beautiful wheel route down the left sideline, for a 50-yard TD which proved to be the winning score.

With two minutes to go in the game,Berlin was facing a third down and 6 to go. Maslowski took the ball around the right edge breaking tackles for a seven-yard run to seal the victory.

“That run exemplifies how good this kid (Maslowski) could be. He’s just a special athlete” Ladas said.

Blocking very well for the Bears on Offense where Nick Zuk, Greg Platosz, Labbadia, Mark D’Amore and Hamel out of the back field.

Berlin moved to 4-0 and first place in the division.

"This was a big win for our team and town. They are a LL town. I give our kids all the credit, they worked very hard." Ladas added.
