Tolland Next Up For Berlin Football

Defense will have to play assignment football against option.

Any time a football team faces a team that runs the triple option, it is a stressful week.

That is the case this week as 2-0 Berlin plays Tolland.

"They are a triple option team with a very good fullback," Berlin coach John Capodice said. "We must play disciplined football and be able to stop QB/FB and the pitch in their offense."

Berlin hung on for a close 21-14 win over East Catholic in its opener but came back with a solid 38-7 victory oer Rocky Hill.

"I was very pleased with the way our team competed against Rocky Hill," Capodice said. "We got off to a great start scoring on our first drive to set the tone. We were able to eliminate our turnovers, and force Rocky Hill to turn it over three times. Our leadership from our seniors has been terrific

"I believe we have been playing well as a unit on both sides of the ball. I was pleased in the number of points the offense scored against Rocky Hill and minus one big play, we were close to a shutout on defense."

The offense is under the direction of sophomore quarterback Mitch Williams. That can be a scary proposition if the untested sophomore doesn't have some poise.

"Mitch Williams and the offense are off to a terrific start," Capodice said. "Mitch has a terrific supporting cast with our receivers and offensive line. Mitch has been able to learn our offense and it great to see him leading our team at the QB position. He is a true student-athlete and competes in everything he does."
