Sometimes it’s the small moments in life that make people happy. That small experience could be going on a nature hike, performing a skit, swimming very early in the morning or just making a new friend. The Berlin Children’s Fund gives Berlin children in need the opportunity to spend a week at an outdoor camp doing all the things that most take for granted. This opportunity can make a world of difference in a child’s life.
The Berlin Children’s Fund was established in 1969 to give children in Berlin the opportunity to have that summer camp experience. The committee of nine also includes Antoinette Pajor, Community Service Director and Doug Truitt, Assistant Director, Community Services and Youth Services Coordinator. The committee’s responsibility is to raise funds and show their appreciation to the donors. The Community /Youth Service Department administrates who the camperships go to.
Referrals are received from the Berlin Visiting Nurse Association, Berlin School Educators, and the Berlin Community Service Department. There are guidelines for receiving a campership. Assistant Director, Community Services and Youth Services Coordinator, Doug Truitt can be reached at (860) 828-7059 for families who would like to apply for a campership.
The Marjorie Moore Charitable Foundation this fiscal year has awarded a portion of what is needed to accomplish the committee’s goal of sending a number of children who apply for these camperships to camp. That is why there is a need for the Berlin community to show their support of youth in town that are in need of a campership. There has been a significant increase in need for camperships in the last few years. So any donation amount is greatly appreciated by the committee and the recipients.
The Campership Fund Raising Kick Off will begin on Monday, April 16 with donation letters send to various organizations, businesses and townspeople. If you would like to make a contribution to this worthwhile fund please make your tax deductable check to “The Berlin Children’s Fund,” 240 Kensington Road, Berlin CT 06037. The Berlin Children’s Fund can also be considered in your United Way donation.
Let’s be part of an effort to make a difference in a child’s life.
