Scholarship Offers Aid For Student Journalists

Award in honor of former Courant sportswriter Bo Kolinsky

High school seniors aspiring to careers in sports journalism are invited to apply for the ninth annual Bohdan Kolinsky Memorial Journalism Scholarship.  Deadline for applications is Feb. 6, 2012.

The scholarship winner receives $1,000 for the freshman year of college and can qualify for increasing aid in ensuing years by meeting specified standards.  The award is made by the Connecticut Sports Writers’ Alliance in memory of a former scholastic sports editor of the Hartford Courant who died at 49 in 2003.

Kolinsky Scholarships currently are assisting students at Syracuse, Fordham and Boston University.

Bohdan Kolinsky, longtime Hartford Courant high school writer and editor, died when he was just 49.

Everyone knew him as Bo. And Bo knew everyone. More than a writer or editor, Bo was an ambassador for The Courant sports department.
