McGee Middle School Students Collecting Supplies For Storm Sandy Victims

Items will be sent to New York P.S. 146, The Howard Beach School in Queens, N.Y.

The students of McGee School are holding a school supplies drive through Dec. 4 at McGee for a K-8 school in Queens, N.Y.  that was hit hard from Hurricane Sandy. The school, New York, P.S. 146, The Howard Beach School, was heavily damaged by the storm and its students and families are still fighting to get back on their feet. Supplies can be dropped off at McGee in rooms 215 or 216, located at 899 Norton Road.

The students are hoping to get the entire community involved in the cause and are collecting school supplies and backpacks, as well as gift cards to stores like Target and Wal-Mart to help out needy families who have been displaced because of the storm. Many are still without power.

McGee School invites the entire Berlin community to join us in lending a helping hand to those severely impacted by the destruction of Hurricane Sandy. We have been paired up with a hardship school in Queens, New York, P.S. 146, The Howard Beach School. They are a K-8 school whose students and families have been heavily impacted by the destruction of Sandy.

We are collecting school supplies, books, and gift cards for the students and families.  They are in need of all types of school supplies:  pens, pencils, art supplies, backpacks, paper, rulers, calculators, etc. Any book in good condition  will be distributed to students in grades K-8. Gift cards from Target, Walmart, Staples, etc. will be distributed to Howard Beach School families that are most in need.

Principal James McKeon is extremely grateful to the students of McGee. He said he was trying to figure out how he could best help and support all his families during this difficult time. He went to his computer to check his mail and McGee’s letter offering assistance to his school was there. He was shocked and ecstatic thinking this was nothing short of a miracle.

We shall be collecting these supplies through Tuesday, December 4th. You may drop your donations off at: McGee School Rooms 215 or 216, located at 899 Norton Road.

We look forward to working with you. The Berlin community has always been generous and caring to everyone who needs help. Once again, let’s team together to help the children.
