Huge Test For Redcoat Football

Northwest Catholic will provide toughest test of the season Friday night.

Berlin has cruised to an unbeaten record on the football field.

Despite losing almost its entire starting team to graduation, the Redcoats thought they could be successful with an easy season schedule.

That is all about to change Friday night when Berlin hosts Northwest Catholic at Scalise Field in a 7 p.m. game.

"NWC is a veteran team with 19 returning starters from last year," Berlin coach John Capodice said. "They have two solid running backs Nick Gaynor and Anthony Carter and two good big lineman in Maleek Riley and Wesley Hopkins up front.  Their quarterback, Tyler Calitri has also done a good job running the ball."

Northwest comes into the game at 3-1. The lone blemish on the record comes from an overtime loss to highly-regarded Bloomfield on the road.

"Friday night, we will have to play disciplined football, no turnovers, no penalties, against this team," Capodice said. "I believe the kids are excited to play in this game. It is homecoming and they expect a great atmosphere to compete."

The teams have two common opponents so far this season and are 2-0 against them.

Berlin beat Tolland 56-14 and Weaver 43-0. Northwest Catholic beat Tolland 42-0 and Weaver 52-0.
