Hubbard Fifth Graders Put On Concert And Graduate From DARE Program

Principal Al Souza calls it 'the beginning of the end' as fifth graders march toward graduation.

The Hubbard Elementary School fifth graders put on their annual choral concert and then quickly changed gears to graduate from the DARE Program with their DARE officer Detective Kathy Griffin.

Hubbard Principal Al Souza welcomed the parents and said "Welcome to the beginning of the end. What I mean by that is this is the first of so many great events these fifth graders will go through on their way to finishing up their time at Hubbard and heading off to middle school."

The concert was under the direction of Mrs. Kaczynski and the accompaniment of Jeff Sirois.

DARE Officer Det. Kathy Griffin said the group at Hubbard were a great bunch of kids and also thanked the school for its support.

"I'd also like to thank Budney Company because they basically fund the entire program from the materials we use to educate the kids to the backpacks we give them when they have completed the program," Griffin said. "I'd also like to thank the Hubbard School faculty especially the fifth grade teachers."

Anthony Giove won the top award in the DARE essay contest and read his winning entry at the ceremony. Victoria Adler was second in the contest and Rebecca Mayer took third. Giove and Adler won gift certificates for membership to the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford.
