High School Roundup: Swim Team Moves To 3-0

Boys soccer evens record and girls soccer improves with wins.

GIRLS SWIMMING AND DIVING

Berlin 87, Hartford 74

The Berlin swimming and diving team beat the Hartford co-op team in Hartford Tuesday, 87-74.

Kate Piotrowicz led the way by winning the 200 IM and 100 free. Kelsey Kozikowski won the 200 free and 100 fly. She also made the states in the 200 free. Briana Cass won the 50 free and qualified for states and Jenna Paradis won diving.

Arian Silas came in second in both the 200 IM and the 100 fly.

"The girls are off to a great start with a 3-0 record," Berlin coach Amanda McCarthy. "We have some tough meets ahead but I am confident in what they can do. There are many girls who are close to state cuts and I know they will qualify soon."

Berlin swims at E.O Smith in Storrs on Friday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Berlin 5, Bulkeley: Shannon Murphy scored three goals, Dana Hebert scored a goal and Bulkeley scored on an own goal as the Redcoats beat the Bulldogs on the road.

It was Berlin's fourth shutout of the season.

The Redcoats improved to 4-1-1 with the win.

BOYS SOCCER

Berlin 4, Bulkeley 0: The Redcoats got goals from Connor Hilbie, Jake Haynes, Brajen Cano and Alex Bednarek in shutting out Bulkeley Monday.

Chris Von Achen and Brian Bostrum made five saves combined for the shutout.

The Redcoats improved to 2-2-1 with the victory.
