CIAC to Sponsor Co-ed High School Bowling Tournament

First tournament will be held May 19 at Bradley Bowl.

The CIAC has announced it will be sponsoring a co-ed bowling tournament for member school students. The event will be held on May 19 at Bradley Bowl in Windsor Locks. The CIAC currently sponsors championships in 27 sports. If bowling proves successful, it may be slated for CIAC tournament play in two years.

Bowling is the fastest growing interscholastic sport in the United States. Nineteen states currently sponsor bowling as an interscholastic sport, and 65 colleges compete in bowling, with 35 of those programs offering bowling scholarships.

Each team for this tournament will be comprised of five to eight members. In each game, the teams will be required to have three boys and two girls or three girls and two boys competing. All CIAC member schools are invited to send teams. The Connecticut Bowling Proprietors are donating over $2,000 in prizes, to be split among the top three teams. The deadline for registering is April 21. Any school interested in sending a team should speak with their Athletic Director and contact the CIAC.
