Berlin's Austin Lawrence Survives 'The Wrath of the Boneyard' and Earns a CT State Championship Title

With the first 3 races of the 2013 Northeast Cross Country Race Series behind him, Austin is the point leader in his category and age group placing him first out of 31 racers.

On Saturday, May 11, Austin Lawrence competed with the Ridin’ Redcoats of Berlin High School in “The Wrath of the Boneyard” Route 66 Series Mountain Bike Race finishing in second place.

The race qualified him for a Connecticut State Championship Title where he was awarded a second place medal.

The rainy conditions made the technical loop course even more of a challenge.  With approximately 500 feet of climb, the riders wound their way over numerous obstacles such as roots, mud puddles, ledge, steep inclines and the dreaded “Boneyard.”

For a rider like Austin, half the loop was a technical muddy bliss while the backside featured super-sweet, super-fast single track hard pack.  The race was held on the grounds of the Meriden Motorcycle Club and was a USA Cycling sanctioned event.

Austin and the Ridin’ Redcoats will continue their season on Wednesday, May 15th where they will travel to Berkshire Academy in Sheffield, MA for another awesome mountain bike challenge.
