The Boys team picked up two important wins today. Brendan McLarty and James Dwyer again placed first and second for the team. They were also the overall race winner and runner-up.

The Berlin Boys were able to go 1 through 5 against Bristol Eastern and only allowed one Bulkeley runner to break into the pack of our first five.

"The boys are running really well right now," Berlin coach Steve Soucy said "They are focused on having the entire team run under 20 minutes at Wickham and continue to lower their team time. The time they ran today was the fastest team time at Sage Park we have turned in since 2009."

Matt Kall, Will Cavedon, Ryan Kliszewski, Lawrence Betterini and Frank Davilla rounded out our top seven today. Freshman Chris Morelli again showed great improvement and continues to lower his personal time. Soucy said the adjustment to running 3.1 miles from running 1.9 miles in middle school can be tough.

The girls again proved they are one of the top teams that will without a doubt sneak up on a lot of teams when the championship races come along in late October. The team is putting up fantastic team times and run with a pack that is 10 to 12 deep.

"They don't get a lot of mention in polls but have beaten a lot of the teams that do," Soucy said. "This is the first time since we entered the CCC South that we have beaten Bristol East head to head. We edged them out last year in the CCC Championship race but hadn't beaten them in a dual meet."

Kaylene Sylvain, Brittany Sullivan and Taylor Lupini ran tough according to Soucy.

"They were in a pack with two Bristol Eastern girls through the first 2.5 miles of the race," he said. "When they came to the final hill, Kaylene and Brittany pushed really hard and ended up taking first and second. They are running with great confidence right now and were just too strong on the hills for the competition to stay with. They turned a three second Bristol Eastern lead into a seven second Berlin win in the final half mile. Taylor finished fifth overall and third for us."

Lupini was followed by Nicole Sylvain, Kristen Madeia, Nicole Grieco and Paige Young in the top seven. Another stand out performance was put in by Leena Kader, who was able to knock 5:30 off her time from our prior race at Sage.

"This is the time of year where the kids start to get excited because they begin to see the results from the hard work they have been putting in," Soucy added. "Hopefully we can remain healthy and keep the times dropping through October."
