Berlin Loses McGee Principal To Manchester Public Schools

Dr. Scott Ratchford will serve as the new director of teaching and learning for Manchester Public Schools.

Manchester Public Schools announced Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, that they have hired former Berlin middle school principal Scott Ratchford to serve as its new director of teaching and learning. 

Ratchford's responsibilities will include overseeing the district's curriculum, staff development, managing grant proposals and assessing curricular areas, according to information provided by the school district. 

“Dr. Ratchford brings a wide range of professional experiences to his new role," Interim Superintendent Richard Kisiel said in a statement. "

He has a strong commitment to support student learning opportunities and make the closing of the achievement gap a top priority."

Ratchford has years of experience as a classroom teacher, school psychologist and as an assistant principal in the Avon school district for two years. He holds a bachelor's in English from the University of Connecticut, a master's in Education from Marist College and a doctorate from UConn focusing on interventions for students with reading disabilities. 

Ratchford will being in his new position on Aug. 26, 2013. He will replace Troy Monroe, who accepted a position with Family Urban Schools of Excellence in Hartford.
