Berlin Bands Honored At 'Festival Disney'

BHS earned a "Superior" first place rating, as well as the "Best in Class" award in division AA.

On Friday, May 3rd the Berlin High School Studio Jazz Ensemble I and Marching Band traveled to Orlando, Florida to compete in the National "Festival Disney" showcase.

This year, Festival Disney featured schools from all over the United States and Canada. We are pleased to report that the Berlin High School Studio Jazz Band earned a "Superior" first place rating, as well as the "Best in Class" award in division AA. Additionally, the BHS Studio Jazz Ensemble received the "Silver" award for the second highest scoring group out of all Jazz Divisions! These awards place the Berlin High School jazz program firmly among the "top" high schools in the country.

"We are very pleased with the results at Festival Disney," stated Raymond Sinclair, Director of Jazz at Berlin High School. "The students have been working tirelessly all year to prepare for this competition. I could not be more proud to be their director! We hope that this success will now help recruit more potential eighth graders as well as current BHS students to join the BHS music program and help to further build on the success already established by the Jazz Band. Next year we hope that enough students will be interested in jazz so that we can start a second full jazz band as well as a jazz combo (which has 4-8 musicians)."

If you would like to hear the Award Winning BHS Studio Jazz Ensemble I, please make sure to purchase tickets for "Jazz with Pizzazz" which will take place on Saturday, June 1st at 7:00 pm in the BHS Cafeteria. This event will feature dessert, coffee, dancing, and a silent auction in a cabaret style setting hosted by NBC 30 meteorologist Darren Sweeney.

We will feature performances by our very own BHS Jazz band, as well as "Frankenfrenz" (a professional jazz ensemble). If you would like tickets please contact Catherine Rich at kc.rich@sbcglobal.net ASAP.
