Asbestos Removed During Berlin High School Renovation

Officials enter Phase II of an $84.1 million renovation project of the high school.

While school isn't in session, the district is completing some projects in the Berlin High School renovation that they wouldn't be able to with students in the building.

The New Britain Herald reported that the district has removed both asbestos and PCBs from the building as it continues Phase II of the $84.1 million plan to rehabilitate the building.

Voters approved at referendum a $69.95 million plan to rehabilitate the school, however the project came millions of dollars over budget due to a discrepancy. Since then, however, House Rep. Joe Aresimowicz helped secure an extra $19 million to pick up the cost of the shortfall.
