PTOs Want To See One-On-One High School Referendum Debate

But will plan opponents agree to speak about the issue?

The PTOs of all of the Berlin schools have gotten together and asked members of the Berlin Board of Education and members of the Berlin Republican Town Committee to debate the merits of the proposed renovation plan for Berlin High School.

The debate would be a one-on-one debate between a member of the Board of Education, most likely President Gary Brochu, and a member of the Berlin Republican Town Committee.

The Chairman of the Berlin Republican Town Committee is George Millerd but any member of the Berlin Republican Town Committee, which opposed the plan going to referendum, can debate.

RE: INVITATION TO PUBLIC FORUM

Dear Mr. Brochu and Mr. Millerd:

The Parent-Teacher Organizations of the Berlin Public Schools firmly believe that it is imperative for Berlin citizens to have an accurate understanding of the high school renovation project prior to the referendum on March 15th.

For this reason, we would like to sponsor a public debate between a member of the Board of Education and a member of the Republican Town Committee. We hope that the organizations you represent will take the time to demonstrate your commitment to the residents of Berlin by participating in this forum.

The forum will be held at Berlin High School sometime during the week of March 7th, in the evening. Please RSVP your interest to Helen deRito, President of the McGee Middle School PTO, by Monday, February 21st via telephone (860-829-9879) or email (derito.aos@snet.net). Please include the name of the individual that will represent your organization as well as available dates.

Thank you for your cooperation and consideration. Sincerely,

The Parent-Teacher Organizations of the Berlin Public Schools (Hubbard, Willard, Griswold, and McGee Schools)
