Officials Issue Voluntary Recall of 1800 Brand Tequila

Refunds are being offered to consumers who purchased any of three 1800 Tequila imported by Proximo Spirits, after the bottles' glass stoppers may have been damaged during transportation.

The potential for glass particles in certain bottles of “1800” brand tequila has led to a national recall of three products, the Department of Consumer Protection announced today.

Consumers who have purchased the following items are encouraged to heed the voluntary national recall announced by Agavera Camiches, S.A. de C.V, the brand owner of 1800 Tequila, and by Proximo Spirits, the importer of the product.

  • 1800 Tequila Coconut 1.75 liter
  • 1800 Tequila Silver 1.75 liter
  • 1800 Tequila Reposado 1.75 liter

The companies announced the voluntary recall after learning of potential damage to the bottles’ glass stoppers during transportation and handling. While there have been no reports of consumer injuries, the potential of small particles of glass in the bottle could pose a health and safety risk.

“The Department of Consumer Protection is communicating with Connecticut wholesalers who distribute the products to our liquor retailers, and we support the companies’ decision to voluntarily recall the items to safeguard consumers,” Commissioner William M. Rubenstein said today. “While wholesalers and retailers are removing the recalled items from sale, consumers who already have these products at home can seek and receive a refund from the brand owner,” he said.

This recall is limited to the 1.75 liter sizes. All other sizes (50ml, 200ml, 375ml, 750ml and 1 liter) are not affected and not subject to recall.

One liquor store had not heard about the recall yet but said it carried the brands and was going to check the shelves right away.

got the recall notice and pulled a case or six bottles from their shelves.

Consumers should check to see if they have affected product by comparing the first 9 digits of the 13-digit Lot Code, which can be found on the side of the bottle against the list of impacted product codes:

Bill, pushed wrong button an send comment off before I was finished.
