New Britain Files Lawsuit Against Berlin Over Ball Park Tax Value

Both communities share a portion of the minor league baseball stadium, and the dispute centers on Berlin's assessment on how much the property is worth.

A taxation dispute from 2003 is flaring up again between Berlin and New Britain over the minor league baseball stadium that extends partially into Berlin.

The Hartford Courant reported that New Britain filed a lawsuit against Berlin in May challenging the town's $10.4 million assessment on the stadium property from the 2012 revaluation.

The Courant reported that the dispute, stretching back into the 1990s, was settled in 2003 when New Britain agreed to pay Berlin one-tenth of a the total $300,000 in taxes toward the stadium property. But that was back when the property was assessed at $4.2 million and, according to Berlin's 2012 revaluation, that price has hiked to $10.4 million, the Courant reported.

So, New Britain is taking Berlin to court over that assessment, arguing that the assessment is wrong and excessive, the Courant reported.
