Meet the Mayor: Rochette Opens 'Office Hours' for Residents, Business Owners

Mayor Rachel Rochette said following the 2013 election that she wants more input from residents in the local government process - and she's opening town hall to make it happen.

Got a suggestion on how to improve local government? Want to see how the budget process works? Just curious about who is running Berlin? Then come to town hall and meet your mayor.

Mayor Rachel Rochette is instilling an "open house" on Thursday nights that will give the community a chance to meet council members, learn more about Berlin's local government or just sound off.

"I learned during election season that some residents in town believed their voice was not being heard," Rochette said. "I wanted to do something to give residents a chance to talk directly with their elected officials and staff and to share their opinions, especially with the upcoming budget process."

The open house program, which will take place Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Berlin Town Hall, begins on Jan. 9.

Rochette said she hopes the program will open up stronger lines of communication between residents and town leaders. She said as the program grows, she hopes other council members and staff will be able to join in.

Rochette is also offering appointments to interested residents. To schedule an appointment, call (860) 828-7003.
