4:15 p.m. Update: Turnout Is Low, May Set Record

Polling stations are open till 8 p.m.; check back with Patch throughout the day for updates!

Voters have just under four hours left to vote for the town council, Police Commission, Board of Assessment Appeals and Board of Education at five polling places in town.

Workers at all of the polling places said the voter turnout is remarkably low.

Registrars of Voters Elizabeth Tedeschi and Chuck Warner said that at 4 p.m. 19 percent of registered voters had voted.

"We had to go back to the last several elections to look up results and the percentage of voters," Tedeschi said. "One year we had 60 percent and the other years were all in the 30's for percentage. We still have almost four hours left so we are hoping to get it up there but it's been very low up to this point."

Mayor Adam Salina and Democratic Chairman Fred Jortner were greeting voters at Griswold School.

"We hear the turnout is very low," Jortner said.

"I think people have their minds in other places after the past week we've had," Salina said.

It’s a municipal election year, which means voters will head to the polls to select their boards of selectmen, education and other various boards and commissions. Some towns will also be electing their chief executive officer today, either a mayor or first selectman, and other towns also have referendum questions on their ballots.

In Berlin, the polling places are: Willard School, 1088 Norton Road; American Legion, 154 Porters Pass; Hubbard School, 135 Grove St.; Senior Center, 31 Colonial Drive; Griswold School, 133 Heather Lane.
