Blizzard 2010: Town Weathered the Storm

Very Few Incidents Reported

After leaving a foot of snow and howling winds of 50 miles per hour, the Blizzard of 2010 did little to disrupt life in Berlin.

There was a car crash reported mid-day on Sunday. A pick-up truck traveling from Rocky Hill to Berlin failed to negotiate a turn and ended up sliding off the road and crashing into a grove of trees. The driver was transported to Hartford Hospital with minor injuries. The Berlin, Kensington and East Berlin Fire Departments all responded to the call.

Public Works reported that Trashaway had postponed its pick-ups for Monday. It will start picking up refuse at 3 a.m. Tuesday and continue until it reaches its normal schedule. The spokesman did say, however, "When in doubt, put it out," when it comes to whether or not you should put out your refuse can or cans.

Driving around town on Monday saw people and businesses digging out with shovels, using a snow-blower or getting help from a plow.
