Berlin's Hank Stefanowicz Finally Honored With Bronze Star

Blumenthal delivers the award after he earned it in 1970 but never got it.

 

Many people around Berlin know Hank Stefanowicz. He was an active coach in youth baseball and his son David was a star at Berlin High School and later Dartmouth College.

What most don't know is that Hank Stefanowicz was a hero in the Vietnam War and awarded the Bronze Star. The trouble was Stefanowicz shipped out before he was given the actual award.

The long wait ended this week as Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) came to his Kensington home and presented the Bronze Star. The Bronze Star Medal is an individual military award of the United States Armed Forces. It is awarded for acts of heroism, acts of merit, or meritorious service in a combat zone.

His wife Kathy Stefanowicz says that Hank still suffers from nightmares that haunt him all day about the combat he saw in Korea.
