Berlin Will Be Ready For Election Day

Lots of work left to do for Registrars and Town Clerk.

Berlin Registrars of Voters Betty Tedeschi and Chuck Warner sat at their desks late Wednesday and looked a little weary.

You can understand why because the delay caused by Hurricane Sandy and loads of new voter registration has kept them busy almost non-stop for weeks.

Despite the Town Hall being closed on Monday, both Tedeschi and Warner said they have no choice but to be ready for the Nov. 6 election.

because of the storm. That put even more pressure on the registrars as they have to wait until after that date to input the over 600 absentee ballots that have already been cast.

"It's normal for us to get a lot more voter registration during a presidential year," Tedeschi said before the Hurricane. "Last June was the lowest turnout we've ever had for a local election. But when you have Gubernatorial and Presidential races, you get the big turnout. It really runs in cycles. I got 40 new voter cards this morning."

Those who are eligible and wish to register to vote can walk into the registrars’ office in Town Hall between 8:30 and 4:30 tomorrow, Thursday. That is the last time one can do so and be eligible to vote Nov. 6.

One issue not facing Berlin is that all of the polling places have power. Many other polling places throughout the state do not have power and the rush is on to get them up and running before next Tuesday.

What will the people in New York and New Jersey do when it comes to voting? That's the big question.

On Tuesday Nov. 6, Berlin residents will cast their votes for Presidential and Vice-Presidential electors, United States Senator, Representative in Congress, State Senator, State Representative, Registrar of Voters, and Non-Partisan Board of Education.

The location of the polling places is as follows:
Voting District Location of Polling Place

  • District #1 Emma Hart Willard School, 1088 Norton Road, Berlin
  • District #2 American Legion Hall, 154 Porters Pass, Berlin
  • District #3 Richard D. Hubbard School, 139 Grove Street, East Berlin
  • District #4 Berlin Senior Center, 31 Colonial Drive, Kensington
  • District #5 Mary E. Griswold School, 133 Heather Lane, Kensington

Absentee Ballots will be counted at the following central location:
Berlin Town Hall, 240 Kensington Road, Berlin, Connecticut.

Voting machines will be used. The polls will be opened at six o’clock in the morning (6 a.m.) and will remain open until eight o’clock in the evening (8 p.m.)
