Berlin to Seek Municipal Brownfield Grant

The town is seeking $382,500 from the state for demolition and site remediation of a Farmington Avenue property.

The town is looking to move forward with the demolition and remediation of a former factory site along Farmington Avenue -- and they are seeking funds from the state to do so.

Berlin Town Manager Denise McNair will request permission from members of the Town Council on Monday to move forward in applying for a $382,500 state grant for demolition of the property at 889 Farmington Avenue. The funds would be part of the state's Municipal Brownfield Grant program.

"The Town Council last authorized the town to apply for the grant and enter into the grant agreement in April, but there have been delays in the execution of the grant agreement and the authorizing resolutions are dated so a new authorizing resolution needs to be approved before the grant closing," McNair said.

The council will determine whether to authorize the grant, which covers most of the work, on Oct. 1.
