Berlin Formulates Emergency Plan for Election Days

Berlin officials are taking into account the impact hazardous weather could have on elections.

Superstorm Sandy made landfall in Connecticut just days before voters went to the polls for the Nov. 6 elections.

With the prospect of massive storms, power outages and freak early snow becoming unfortunately common, Berlin is taking steps to create a standard of procedures on how to handle elections in natural disaster situations.

The New Britain Herald reported that the town's two registrars of voters have come up with a plan that includes making sure there is an updated list of phone numbers of all polling places and training moderators in what do in an emergency situation.

The Herald reported that the state recently passed legislation requiring towns to come up with emergency plans for elections, and that Berlin is complying with the new law.
