Berlin Considering Making a Part of Main Street One-Way

The Berlin Economic Development Commission will be holding a public meeting in August to discuss the concept as part of a streetscape improvement proposal.

Could a small section of downtown Berlin become one-way?

The town was recently awarded a "Main Street Program Grant" to make streetscape improvements in the area between Kensington Road and Farmington Avenue, and officials are looking into whether to make that section of Main Street a one-way access point, according to a press release on the town's website.

The area, which is a little over 200 feet in length, is in the vicinity of the Berlin Train Station on Depot Road, which will be a topic of discussion later this month as Berlin prepares for the eventual rehabilitation of the train line between New Haven and Springfield.

According to the news release, the Berlin Economic Development Commission will hold a public information session at the start of its meeting on Monday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Town Council Chambers, Town Hall, 240 Kensington Road in Berlin.

"The purpose of the meeting is to provide information on topics related to the development of the Town Center area in the vicinity of the Berlin Train Station," the release said. "We welcome comments including from businesses and property owners in this vicinity."
