Aresimowicz Names Miceli, 11 Others to New Preservation Committee

The special committee will review and allocate funds for the preservation of farmland, open space, historic preservation and affordable housing.

Dawn Miceli has long focused on making Southington a great place to live by focusing on open space, the arts and education. Those talents will serve her well as she now takes on deeper challenges at a state level.

Miceli, a member of the Southington Town Council, was named to the state's new Face of Connecticut Steering Committee earlier this month. She was appointed by House Majority Leader Joe Aresimowicz, who represents Berlin & Southington in the Connecticut General Assembly.

"I have always been a proponent of open space preservation as it fosters smart growth for communities, improves the quality of life for residents and helps bolster the local economy," Miceli said.

"Currently, I am spearheading an effort on the Southington Open Space and Land Acquisition Committee to establish open space goals and objectives for our community in terms of the percentage of land we hope to preserve as open space."

In her new role, Miceli will serve alongside 12 members from around the state who review and allocate funds for the preservation of farmland, open space, historic preservation and affordable housing.

Miceli is the Communications Director at Hamden Hall Country Day School and served for more than a decade as an adjunct professor with the Quinnipiac University School of Communications. She resides in Southington with her husband Joe Miceli, a high school mathematics teacher and coach, and her son Jake, a seventh-grader at DePaolo Middle School.

“I can’t imagine a better person to work on preserving the face of our state than Dawn Miceli," Aresimowicz said.

"Dawn has been an extraordinary public servant, dedicated to the well-being of Southington as a member of the Town Council, Chair of the Southington Education Foundation, and as member of the Open Space and Land Acquisition Committee among many other affiliations," he said. "I’m confident that the passion, commitment and leadership she has repeatedly demonstrated in Southington will now be put to good use for our whole state.”
