Aid for Road Paving On Way To Berlin And Southington

Bonding meeting set for Friday.

State Representative Joe Aresimowicz (D-Berlin & Southington) announced that both Berlin and Southington are expected to receive state funding for road improvements.

The State Bond Commission is meeting Friday and is expected to approve the first half of the 2012-13 town aid road grant in the amount of $15 million. Berlin’s portion of the allocation is $82,051 and Southington’s portion is $130,473

Aresimowicz said that both towns should also receive a similar grant at the end of the year.

“Our local roads take a beating in the winters—even during mild winter weather like last year. Tar grants help to pay for repairing them and that helps stabilize our property taxes,” said Rep. Aresimowicz.

Also known as TAR, Town Aid for Roads grants are generally released in January and July each year. The state grant funds allocated are used locally for safety issues, design work and repaving.
