A motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Berlin Turnpike North and Selden Street, the road that Northeast Utilities is on, closed down the highway and sent two people to the hospital at approximately 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.
A door on one car had to be popped open by Berlin rescue workers as one person was pinned in the car.
Two people were taken to Hartford Hospital, one by AMR ambulance and one by Hunter's Ambulance. Their conditions are unknown.
The turnpike was closed for about a half hour before one lane was re-opened.
The DEP was called as was the Deparment of Transportation due to complications of the accident. One of the traffic signal boxes at the busy intersection was damaged and wires were down preventing the traffic signals from working correctly.
